Tips:

Below are some tips for helping your student succeed in school.

  • Accommodations- make sure that your child is aware of their accommodations and what helps them in school.
  • Bring your child to their IEP meeting-this is extremely important, as they are the one that will have to "live" the plan.
  • Attendance is vital to the education of your child, please help to make sure your student is in school.
  • Encourage your child to ask questions at school and clarify assignments if they don't understand.

Tips for helping your child at home:
  • Provide a study time and area where your child feels comfortable
  • Praise your child for the things they do well
  • Talk with your child about their day
  • Model and teach them how to make "to do" lists and prioritize their homework
  • Read to your child and provide reading material
  • Talk about current events with your child
  • Provide a computer for written assignments if the child has difficulty writing- public libraries have computers for public use
